The FuRPLe Fun Run

branding, graphic design (and costume design!)

The Funnest Run You’ll Run for Fun!

In 2013, I worked with the Friends of the Rollinsford Public Library (FRPL) to establish the Salmon Run 5K, an annual trail and road race held in Rollinsford, New Hampshire. I also helped the Friends develop a fun run to accompany the 5K, naming the event, creating the tagline, and creating the Purple Furple costume (inspired by Maurice Sendak’s Where the Wild Things Are). I also got to be Bernard the Furple for the first few years of the race!

The front of the race shirts were designed around a pen and ink illustration created for the RPL by New Yorker cartoonist (and incredible illustrator) John Klossner! He created the monster, I added the children, tagline, and color!

The event was held annually from 2013 through 2019. I created all of the graphics for the fun run as well as a full-color sponsor poster to be displayed both at the race and year-round at the town library. Each year’s poster would tell a story of monsters work together while perfectly integrating the fun run sponsors.
