Inspired by Classical Design
I’ve always been fascinated by the constructed Roman letters of the Renaissance. While the most famous example is Albrecht Dürer’s Constructed Alphabet, my personal favorite are the letterforms of German writing master Johann Neudörffer.
While Dürer’s letterforms went to print in his book Applied Geometry (1525), Neudörffer’s manuscript can only be found at the Museum of Arts in Vienna (he never intended for it to go to print). The manuscript is pretty large (roughly 12×16″) – each letter is hand drawn and painted with orchre watercolor.
In my opinion, Neudörffer’s letterforms are the most beautiful ever created, and this logo is directly inspired by his work.
